Apple Tablet wordt iSlate

Deze laatste beheert meerdere domeinnamen voor verschillende bedrijven, waaronder ook voor Apple. Tot zover was dit allemaal niet zo spannend totdat men erachter kwam dat eind 2007 de domeinnaam tijdelijk in handen is geweest van Apple. Naast deze feiten blijkt ook nog eens dat Bill Keller van de New York Times tijdens een speech op 26 oktober 2009 zich de naam Slate had laten ontvallen: "I'm hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple slate..."

Nog interessanter wordt het als het gaat over wat voor innovatie de nieuwe tablet van Apple gaat brengen. AppleInsider heeft een nieuw patent gevonden waarin Apple beschrijft hoe een touchscreen een feedback naar de gebruiker geeft zodat je de toetsen ook werkelijk kunt voelen.

One approach is to provide tactile feedback mechanisms, such as dots, bars, or other shapes on all or many keys. In another embodiment, an articulating frame may be provided that extends when the surface is being used in a typing mode and retracts when the surface is used in some other mode, e.g., a pointing mode. The articulating frame may provide key edge ridges that define the boundaries of the key regions or may provide tactile feedback mechanisms within the key regions. The articulating frame may also be configured to cause concave depressions similar to mechanical key caps in the surface. In another embodiment, a rigid, non-articulating frame may be provided beneath the surface. A user will then feel higher resistance when pressing away from the key centers, but will feel a softer resistance at the key center.
